WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I CHIPPED MY TOOTH?

DON’T PANIC

We are regularly asked, “What should I do if I chipped my tooth?” This is actually a fairly common problem. If you live in the Launceston and surrounding areas, we encourage you to call the surgery so we can assess the situation and schedule you an appointment at a mutually suitable time. In order to do so, we will ask you several questions when you call to schedule an appointment.

Do you feel any pain? After chipping a tooth, you may not be in pain or uncomfortable as it depends on the extent of the chip and which part of your tooth or filling was damaged. If it is small, the chip may go unnoticed or asymptomatic.

Are you bleeding? We encourage you to call the surgery if you notice that your tooth has chipped and you are also bleeding. This could be an indication that the damage is more serious.

Was it your tooth or your child’s? As a Launceston family dentist, we treat generations of families. We need to know the age of the person presenting with the damaged tooth as it will directly influence our treatment recommendations.

Ways We Restore Chipped Teeth

There are several ways to restore a chipped tooth:

Dental Composite Restoration

We regularly restore chipped teeth with dental composite in a single visit. As an experienced dentist, Dr Chee would apply tooth coloured composite material to the damaged tooth, shape and harden it for a natural looking restoration to provide form and function.

Dental Crowns and Bridges

Some of the patients that visit our surgery prefer to repair their teeth with crowns and bridges. If you have lost a tooth in addition to damaging one, we can restore the damaged and missing teethusing crowns and bridges and dental implants to provide an elegant solution in appearance and functionality.

I'M SCARED - DENTAL ANXIETY

Sometimes vitising a large dental surgery with many patients in the waiting room, dentists and dental assistants moving at a seemingly rushed pace and mind numbing TV in the background can make the most relaxed and sensible person on edge.

We are a different dental surgery. We are a sole dental practitioner surgery that sees patients on time, every time. No more waiting anxiously in a waiting room full of patients. No TV. And if you’re lucky, you may be greeted by Bailey, the cavoodle!

If you aviod the dentist due to fear of what a procedure may be like or simply do not enjoy dental work, give us a call. We can ensure that you are comfortable and relaxed regardless of the dental procedure. When you visit our surgery, we will meet with you to discuss what dental treatment you need and create a plan for how to keep your teeth healthy while easing any fears that you have about dentistry. We will keep you informed about the entire process so that you could make decisions regarding dental care with less anxiety.
